Advice to Baruch College

Today, teachers complain about a lack of student motivation to write and one of the most basic and powerful ways to increase student motivation to write and communicate is to change student perceptions of audience. This is where podcasting comes in. A podcast is a web feed of audio files that is put on the internet for anyone to download. Students can then dl this onto their ipods and listen on the go since Baruch is a school "on the go". Just as blogs can provide an archived window, classroom podcasts can provide windors to the educational environment. Some ideas of podcasting would be language classes, interviews, oral histories, weekly experiments or shows, teaching powerpoints, reflective journals...etc

  1. Baruch has an iTunes page with many videos and podcasts, but none of them are lectures. I agree with you, I’d like to see something similar to Berkeley’s webcasts (http://webcast.berkeley.edu/courses.php), with recorded course lectures.

  2. I agree that is a good method for on the go. My manager was thinking about doing podcasts of technological problems but that wouldn't work too well for people who can't visualize them. Therefore, he is leaning towards making video tutorials instead.

  3. I also think that is a great idea. It's a good way for students to keep up with their work, because it enables them to re-listen to lectures, just in case they may have not gotten all the notes before hand or possibly missed a class...or fell asleep (lol).
