I know we all felt like this at some point!

Old vs New

Old vs. New media is constantly evolving to bring us easier ways to do things from a tech standpoint. Books are being converted to eBooks, journalism is being converted to blogs, radio is being converted to podcasts, even art museums are being converted to museums on the web. People are always reinventing old media that even new media becomes old and we have to move on to a newer media.

Social networking: better or worse than the real thing?

Was your life easier or harder? simpler or more complex? before these social networks came around. This site (http://reseller.co.nz/reseller.nsf/opin/4CEF3701008B4975CC25744D00820AE8) lists the top 10 social networking annoyances. One being "Multiple Social Network Syndrome", so what that is telling me is in this day and age not only are we suffering from regular syndromes like ADD and Multiple personality BUT we also have to add this MSNS syndrome. Social networks have taken over our lives and it seems like more and more people have resorted to alienating others in exchange for some online chit chat instead of the real thing. We can argue that this is a negative thing but we can also say it is positive in many ways. While at the same time these networks can increase our number of friends, they also can have deadly exposure.

What is New Media?

The new media is a huge phenomenon that's occurring all over the world. Wiki's, social networking sites, blogs, media communities, and even technology are part of the various technologies that make up this NEW MEDIA. The Internet is definitely important to new media, as quoted by Linda Friedman in "The new media technologies: overview.." she wrote, "many if not all new media technologies enable collaboration over the internet and that includes the wiki and emails." New media is replacing old media mostly in technology and the advancements it offers. We can see all around us how year after year stores come out with new toys and techies around the world go crazy. Newer ipods replace the old ones and new phone models replace the old ones.
